Caput succedaneum is typically treated only with observation. A complete and rapid recovery will generally occur. If your infant's scalp contour has changed, it should resolve normally. The newborn will often be irritable due to their discomfort so may need analgesia for its headache. Also, it is recommended that handling of the child be minimized for the first several days.

Overall, caput succedaneum is considered an ordinary part of the birthing process. While the extent of the condition will be more severe in some instances, it will not usually require any treatment.
